PIEMONTE & LANGHE

Trekking among wines and castles B0203

PIEMONTE & LANGHE
TOUR AUTOGUIDATO A PIEDI

SELF-GUIDED WALKING TOUR

PIEDMONT & LANGHE
This trek will give you the opportunity to discover the diverse landscapes of the Langhe.
The Langhe is a geographical region or sub-region of lower Piedmont, located between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti. It comprises an extensive hilly system, bounded by the Tànaro, Belbo, Bòrmida di Millesimo, and Bòrmida di Spigno rivers, and bordering the Astesana, Monferrato, and Roero regions.
The tour will allow you to visit some of the most beautiful and characteristic villages in the area.
The first part of the journey will focus on Barolo, as it takes place almost entirely among the vineyards that have made the region famous worldwide. This wine is produced from Nebbiolo grapes, which in these areas extend as far as the eye can see. On the hilltops, you will find villages and castles that invite you to linger and enjoy a good glass of wine and a reinvigorating meal. The second part of the journey will take you to the wildest part of the region, the Alta Langa, where the star of the show is the hazelnut, the Piedmontese variety considered one of the best in the world. Forests, deep valleys, and hazelnut trees punctuate the journey to Cortemilia, the final destination of your holiday. Its history dates back to the Paleolithic and today it is one of the most important towns in the Langhe.

The town center is composed of medieval houses; the town is famous for its round hazelnut.

THE PROGRAM

The longer route passes near Monchiero.
Day 4 Monforte - Cissone: 16 km / approximately 4.5 hours
Today's route takes us to Serralunga, Sinio, Roddino, and then Cissone. In addition to the usual rows of grapes, we encounter the first hazelnut trees, typical of the upper Langhe, and some slightly wilder woodland areas. It's worth stopping in Serralunga, visiting the castle, and enjoying a glass of wine.

Today you can take a short circular route around the hills of this charming village, or relax on the agriturismo terrace.
Day 6: Cissone - Cravanzana: 17 km / approximately 5 hours

Day 7: Cravanzana - Cortemilia: 12 km / approximately 3.5 hours
From Cravanzana, we begin a pleasant downhill stretch towards Torre Bormida, where we cross the river of the same name. We then begin a steep climb towards Bergolo, one of the smallest and most characteristic municipalities of the Alta Langa.
